We are honoured to invite you to take part in the international academic conference ‘Contemporary Challenges of Managing the Local Government – Multi-Aspect Analysis’, organized by Uczelnia Jana Wyżykowskiego in Polkowice. The event will be in a hybrid mode. The aim of the conference is to present research results and best practices, as well as a discussion, concerning social changes in the field of the use of contemporary practices of local government communities in Poland and worldwide.

Moreover, the conference is aimed  to create a platform for discussion for academics and representatives of the local self-government units , as well as social leaders, on the factors determining the contemporary socio-economic development at various spatial scales. Of great interest for the purpose of the conference may be the perspectives of humanities, social science and exact science.

The subject area of the conference includes in particular

  1. The development of local governments
    • law and administration;
    • local authorities against the challenges of the contemporary economy;
    • creativity, innovativeness and entrepreneurship in the area of local and regional socio-economic activities;
    • contemporary challenges faced by the local self-government and public administration in the process of shaping and monitoring processes of socio-economic administration development;
    • managing human resources in local self-governments;
    • spatial development in the local and regional perspective;
    • diagnosis and solutions to social problems;
    • strategic management;
    • education;
    • promoting and building the image of the local government;
    • positioning of the products of local self-governments;
    • migration and demography related policy;
    • ecology and sustainable development;
    • energy saving and renewable energy resources;
    • digitalisation and technological development.
  2. Managing finances and obtaining funds by local governments
    • financing, insurances and financial controlling of local governments;
    • external funds and international cooperation;
    • implementation of investments in public and private partnership.
  3. Sustainable mobility – planning and development of transport in local governments 
    • the development of urban areas, functional areas versus Plany Zrównoważonej Mobilności Miejskiej (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans) – pros and cons to collaborative planning;
    • 15-minute cities, Smart City step by step;
    • communicative exclusion – public transport planning; railway, bus, bicycle, pedestrian traffic;
    • electromobility as one of the basic aspects of sustainable development;
    • urban logistics, parking spaces related policy as elements necessary to implement in local government units.
  4. The role of functional areas in the development of the local governments
    • participation in managing the local government;
    • models of cooperation within functional areas – the role of the leader, association.

We count on the participation of representatives of many areas of science –  scholars, PhD students, students, local government representatives with hands-on experience, representatives of the economic sector. Our conference benefits from a wide range of theories, research and methodologies, as well as from the knowledge of various local environments, , civic organisations,  representatives of local governments. Everyone is cordially invited.

Organisational details

  1. The entries to participate in the conference, together with a short abstract (the online entry form) should be sent by 30 April 2024.
  2. The papers to be presented during the conference, after being approved of by reviewers, will be published – eligible for publishing points. The deadline for sending the texts to be published – 31 May 2024.
  3. The editorial requirements will be sent to the authors who express their will to have their work published.
  4. The Organisers expect participation in the form of speech, research statement, as well as discussion, allowing specific amounts of time for each type of presentation:
    • speech 15 minutes
    • research statement 10 minutes
    • participation in discussion 5 minutes.
  5. The detailed programme of the conference, together with additional organisational details, will be sent to those interested by: 6 May 2024.
