ZUS President’s Contest for the Best Theses

We invite you to participate in a competition for the best academic papers on social insurance. The competition is open to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses. Winners of the competition will receive a cash prize, and the theses will be published by the Social Insurance Institution. Submissions are now being accepted for the second edition of the competition. Eligible to enter are individuals who, between January 1, 2019, and July 31, 2022, successfully defended a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral thesis at a Polish university in any academic discipline. Requirements for the theses

  1. The topic of the paper should be directly related to social insurance.
  2. Polish is the required language of work.
  3. An entry may be submitted to the contest only once.
  4. The application is submitted by the thesis advisor or the head of the research unit where the thesis was defended.

How to Submit Entries to the Contest

  1. Please send the complete set of competition documents to [email protected]
  2. Please submit the documentation in DOC or PDF format.
  3. In the subject line or title of the email containing the documentation, please write: “Social Insurance Institution President’s Contest for the Best Thesis.”
  4. The set of documents includes:
  • an electronic copy of the paper, i.e., in DOC format;
  • a scan of the completed application form, in accordance with the template provided in Appendix 1 to the Regulations;
  • an abstract of the paper (maximum 1,800 characters, including spaces, in DOC or PDF format), stating the purpose of the paper, its main findings, and general conclusions;
  • For bachelor’s and master’s theses, a scan of a certificate issued by the university authorities confirming the grade received for the thesis, along with information on the date of the thesis defense, in accordance with the template set forth in Appendix 2 to the Regulations or according to another template that contains the same information as specified in Appendix 2;
  • a brief biography of the author;
  • a scan of a diploma certifying completion of studies or the award of a doctoral degree;
  • a recommendation from the thesis advisor or supervisor, containing information about the thesis’s scientific and practical merits, which are the basis for its submission to the competition;
  • reviewers' opinions on the paper.

Important! Applications submitted in paper form or to a different email address will not be considered. Key Dates

  • September 30, 2022 – submission of entries for the second edition of the contest,
  • February 2023 – announcement of the winners,
  • June 30, 2023 – publication of the winning entries.
