Opening Ceremony for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

On Friday, October 10, 2025, the Jan Wyżykowski University held a ceremonial inauguration of the 2025–2026 academic year at its main campus. The event was attended by representatives of the University administration, faculty members, administrative staff, invited guests, and students. The ceremony began with UJW Chancellor Edyta Zaręcka, who welcomed everyone in attendance and emphasized the importance of the academic community in the University’s development. Later in the ceremony, Rector Dr. Dariusz Zając, an Associate Professor at UJW, who summarized the past academic year and presented plans for the coming year, as well as Polkowice Mayor Wiesław Wabik, who expressed his appreciation for the University’s efforts to develop the local scientific and economic community. During the inauguration, the matriculation ceremony for first-year students took place, symbolically marking the beginning of their studies at UJW. As is tradition, awards and honors were also presented to students who achieved the highest academic results during the past academic year. A special moment of the ceremony was the conferral of the prestigious title of Primus Inter Pares – an honor awarded to the University’s top student. The UJW Rector also presented the “Distinguished Service to the University” awards in recognition of long-standing commitment to teaching, research, and organizational activities, as well as contributions to the development of the academic community, to:

  • Stanisław A. Witkowski, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof.,
  • Maciej Wilczyński, BEng, PhD, DSc

A highlight of the program was the inaugural lecture delivered by Wojciech Sygnatowicz, Director of the Research and Development Department at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The ceremony concluded with congratulations and best wishes for success and satisfaction in their studies and work during the new academic year.   The Jan Wyżykowski University extends its heartfelt thanks to all event participants for their attendance, commitment, and contribution to the development of the academic community. May the 2025–2026 academic year be a time of continued growth, inspiration, and the achievement of ambitious academic and educational goals.
