On June 20 of this year, the University of the Third Age in Polkowice held a ceremony marking the end of the 2021/2022 academic year. As is customary at this time of year, the event served as a recap of a full year of fruitful work. Participants in the art and crafts section presented their works created using various techniques (including mathematical embroidery, cross-stitch, and scrapbooking). We are deeply impressed by the environmental awareness of the PUTW students. Some of the works were created in accordance with the principle of upcycling – in this case, using waste materials to make toys and beautiful decorations. During the official ceremony, students who have been attending the University for 10 years or more – and who, due to the pandemic, were unable to receive their awards in previous years – were honored. Speakers included Ewa Kowalik, Deputy Mayor of Polkowice for Social Affairs; Rector Dr. Tadeusz Kierzyk, an Associate Professor at UJW; and Wiesława Pomian, Chair of the PUTW Student Council. The event concluded with the long-awaited performance of “The Donkey Princess,” directed by Kinga Kaszewska-Brawer, with roles played by our young-at-heart students. The “Adult Disco” has become a tradition at major events, which is why the 2021/2022 academic year also ended with a dance party. See you after summer break!
