Field Engineering Project

UJW Students in the Mysterious Underground of Osówka
Students from the Department of Mining and Geology, together with Paweł Stefank, BEng, PhD, went beyond the walls of UJW and carried out a fantastic course titled “Field Engineering Project.”
Their destination was #PodziemneMiastaOsówka, one of the most mysterious places in Poland, located in the Owl Mountains.
It is unique because it holds the history of the secret Nazi project “Riese” (Giant), which still raises many questions today.
During the trip, our students:
They toured the adits carved into solid rock – the longest one is as much as 450 meters long
They learned about the mining techniques used during the construction of the #Riese complex, including drilling methods, the use of explosives, and the reinforcement of tunnels,
They analyzed the geology of the area and the impact of the rocks on the construction of underground complexes.
#Osówka is a real treasure trove of knowledge for future engineers, and classes held there are the best way to see lecture hall theory put into practice.
