Supporting students from their very first days of study yields tangible results. One of the initiatives implemented by the Jan Wyżykowski University as part of the “Academic Compass: A Comprehensive Monitoring and Support Program at UJW” project is remedial classes in mathematics and physics for first-year students in engineering programs.

The classes were designed to help students get started in their studies and to level the playing field regarding the knowledge they brought with them from high school. The program consisted of 12 instructional hours of mathematics and 8 instructional hours of physics and was offered to students in five fields of study: Mechatronics, Computer Science, Mining and Geology, Logistics, and Management and Production Engineering.

A total of 105 students benefited from this support; they also had the opportunity to participate in individual consultations in mathematics and physics and to use textbooks purchased for the library as part of the project.

The implementation of these classes yielded very good results. 86 students improved their academic performance, confirming the effectiveness of the measures implemented and the value of providing additional support at the beginning of their studies. The results achieved show that properly planned remedial classes help students better prepare for demanding engineering programs, boost their self-confidence, and facilitate their further academic development.

To ensure comfortable learning conditions for students, classrooms were prepared and adapted for remedial classes, and the necessary teaching equipment was purchased. #EuropeanFunds ##EUFunds
